Mentoring Is:
Being a Peer Mom in our community is an important role within the Strong Mamas, Thriving Babies Program. With us, mentoring is:
- Listening
- Being Respectful
- Being honest and authentic
- Being non-judgemental
- Supporting mentees by reaching out regularly as agreed
- Encouraging and instilling hope
- Encouraging your mentee to advocate for themselves
- Sharing your story when appropriate
- Helping your mentee recognize their strengths
- Setting healthy boundaries surrounding mentor work, e.g. waiting to answer texts from mentee until an appropriate hour, etc.
- Recognizing when a mentee needs more support than you are qualified to offer
- Providing resources as needed to mentees. See Resources tab for more
