DC Cares Self-Sufficiency Program

Douglas County (DC) Cares is a collaborative multi-agency program, funded through the Community Services Block Grant, that provides opportunities for vulnerable residents in Douglas County to achieve self-sufficiency through employment using a caring and supportive process. Participants engage in a process that identifies their current conditions, are assisted in defining their desired future and work together to overcome barriers to achieving their goals.

Douglas County General Assistance Program

The Douglas County General Assistance Program is intended to help with a one-time emergency need to address issues of health, safety and/or well-being. To be eligible for this help, applicants must show how they can meet their future expenses.

Douglas County Human Services

Childcare, child support, employment, energy, food assistance, financial, medical, mental health, older adult, veteran, person with disability, adult and child protection, and transit resources for all those who reside in Douglas county. To report child abuse, ask for intake worker, Child Protection, Youth in Conflict. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps low-income households in Colorado purchase food. It provides a monthly benefit that helps families and individuals buy the food they need for good health. The benefit is provided based on income, resources and the number of individuals in the household. Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT)cards are used to access the benefit and can be used similar to debit cards at participating food stores. Individuals, couples and families may qualify if they meet the income and other eligibility criteria.

Elbert County Coalition Outreach (ECCO)

Anyone in a crisis situation qualifies for ECCO’s help. On a day-to-day basis, ECCO assists low-income residents in a number of ways. Through the storefront, ECCO provides clothing, shoes, household goods, etc. at low or no cost depending on the situation or need. Sales to every day shoppers looking for great deals provides ECCO with retail income that further helps the community.

Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid Program)

Health First Colorado (Colorado"s Medicaid Program) is public health insurance for Coloradans who qualify. Health First Colorado is funded jointly by a federal-state partnership and is administered by the Department of Health Care Policy & Financing and Medicaid benefits and services. Apply for Health First Colorado online, in person, on the phone, or by mail. Search for other doctors and providers by location, name or specialty.

Help & Hope Center

Help & Hope Center is a non-profit human service organization dedicated to providing assistance to people in Douglas and Elbert counties who are in serious economic need, at risk of homelessness, or in a similar crisis. We address immediate needs by consistently providing food and other necessities for homeless, low income, and financially fragile in our community.
